NLC Clinical Leadership Fellowships - The 2011/12 Fellowships under way

We are delighted to say that the sixty new Clinical Leadership Fellowships announced by the Secretary of State for Health, Andrew Lansley, in May 2011 began and had their first modules in November. Applications were open to clinicians in all areas of the NHS across England and closed on the 8th August.

2011/12 Fellowships

Sponsored by the National Leadership Council, the Clinical Leadership Fellowship scheme is designed to support the very best ideas in leadership development from clinicians who have identified and proposed an innovative solution to clinical leadership challenges. Applicants were asked to consider how the leadership challenge they identify and the solution they propose will directly benefit patients within the context of the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) agenda.

"We are primarily looking for a demonstrable talent for leadership and an ambition to develop leadership skills in the service of the NHS. Assessors will look for clinicians who think innovatively, have a burning ambition to
lead change, and want to improve an area of service (click here to see examples of service improvement outcomes) . It is my belief that there is much potential to be realised. The Clinical Fellows programme is a fantastic vehicle to enable, support and encourage clinical leaders to be at the forefront of system transformation.
